Being a beginner in something, for me, is exciting. An opportunity to learn, to grow, to evolve. An opportunity to test, also to test my boundaries, my capabilities. But, honestly, I just love playing around with stuff that excites me. Isn’t that what all grown ups should do?

So, I’ve started playing around with this new DAW (ableton, in case you wondered), still getting used to ALL THESE BUTTONS, mainly clicking through samples and other sounds to find the stuff that I love. Clicking through hours of material, though, just to find a true gem every other sample is NOT fun, and I don’t know how you guys do it.

Over in Garage Band (yeah, well, don’t judge, we all started somewhere, and I once saw a YT-video explaining that some hit producers used sounds you could also find on there, so, a good place to start!), I have some pretty exciting projects sitting around, waiting. Don’t know for the life of me how to convert them. The point is - I do not have to know it yet. I just need to show up for my playtime session, and I know, every time, SOMETHING will happen.

So, well, at the moment, I just have to monitor myself, because I have a habit of denying myself the pleasure of these (smaller or larger) playtime sessions. It comes with being a creative that lacked support for my endeavours my whole life. So, if you’re struggling with this, too, know you’re not alone. And know that babysteps, 5-minutes-are-better-than-nothing-steps, for example, are what we’re looking for here. And not beating ourselves up for not showing up consistently. I’m getting better at this. And you got this, too! Keep creating, my friends. Love ya!
