There’s a lot of advice on artistic routines out there, and, desperate for advice as I was, I followed them all. „Write three pages a day“, „build a daily habit so it’s easier for you to not quit“, „you need to stick to it, daily, or you’re not a real artist“. Okay. That last one was not a quote, but me paraphrasing, but you’re getting it.

As if an artist had the exact same needs as a normal person. As if a multipassionate like me would be able to do everything I love every single day. I’d exhaust myself to death.

So I learned, over time, that daily chores aren’t for me and weekly progress is what I am aiming for in my work. At the beginning of the week, I write down how many sessions per week I’d like to accomplish. And every time I had a session, I tick a box. Three to four writing sessions a week? That’s fantastic! Three to four music sessions? More than I was hoping for!

Helps me tremendously to not feel like a failure for not writing, acting or making music daily. Helps me to feel accomplished and to see that I am making progress, no matter what. You might wanna give it a try.

Keep creating, my friend! Love ya.
